Character Formation for Nation Building is Sibs Publishing House Inc.’s newest worktext series on Values Education or Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao. This series seeks to mold young people in the essential human values and help build their character toward becoming active contributors of nation building. Designed for learners from The New Grades 1 to 10, the series is based on DepEd’s K-12 Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao Curriculum Guide including additional topics that will further enhance their values formation.

• Since the nature of the subject is teaching values with the goal of making the learners eventually internalize and practice the values, this series follows the process of going through the five macro skills: pag-unawa (understanding), pagninilay (reflecting), pagsangguni (consulting), pagpapasya (decision making), and pagkilos (performing/acting).
• The lessons in the series effectively use these five macro skills to enable the learners to eventually develop desirable attitudes and habits, for them to grow in their capacity and personal commitment to do their best, to do what is the good, and to lead a more meaningful and integrated human experience.
• As our young Filipino learners go through the lessons in the series, they will hopefully learn:
• pagpapakatao at pagiging kasapi ng pamilya (becoming human and family responsibility);
• pakikipagkapwa (treating others as fellow human beings);
• pagmamahal sa bansa at pakikibahagi sa pandaigdigang pagkakaisa (love of country and global solidarity); and
• pagkamaka-Diyos at preperensya sa kabutihan (love for God and preference for the good).
• The series envisions young persons who are committed to self-fulfillment, family-centered, disciplined and self-reliant, socially mature and emotionally stable, nationalistic and responsible citizens, and God-loving and deeply rooted in their faith in God.
• Character Formation for Nation Building series supports the national education goal—to provide a well-rounded education that will assist each individual in his or her society and help the individual attain his or her potential as a human being, and to enhance the range and quality of the individuals within the group.

• Every lesson includes key words, short introduction, and some trivia about a certain topic that will enrich students’ vocabulary, ideas, etc.
• It provides formative assessments and Performance Tasks that can be done individually, by pair, or by group that will mold students’ knowledge and skills. It encourages them to explore more about the field of music, art, physical education, and health across various cultures locally and internationally.
• Both the textbook and the teachers wraparound edition give additional learning materials: worksheets, videos, websites encrypted in the QR codes.
• The TWE also contains Curriculum Map set in QR code.
• It secures quality learning by providing photos in colored inserts and well-presented musical score sheets.

• Worktext features exciting sections patterned after an effective teaching flow for good manners and right conduct.
• Teachers Guide features creative teaching strategies in GMRC that are interesting, enhancing, and fulfilling. It includes the text of the listening stories in the worktext. It showcases the following components: objectives, subject matter, materials needed, teaching notes, procedure (i.e., motivation, lesson proper, practice, application, and conclusion), materials/activities for reinforcement and enrichment, and answer key. It features a special section called Word to the Teacher which offers teaching tips, reminders, and strategies.
